What Is Profhilo And How Does It Work?

When it comes to facial aesthetics treatments, there are a lot of different options you can choose from. Depending on what results you’re looking for, how much you want to spend and what your personal aesthetic preferences are, you could opt for partial or full fillers, dermarolling or Botox. But a lot of people are nervous about Botox, and don’t realise that there are other options out there. And if you’re looking for an alternative to Botox, one thing we recommend trying is Profhilo.

So What is Profhilo?

When we talk about Profhilo, we’re talking about a non-surgical facelift. Instead of using knives and pulling skin up, we use needles to inject a treatment made of hyaluronic acid. This treatment has been specifically designed for skin that is ageing and losing its natural elasticity and firmness, and is made of something that your body produces already – hyaluronic acid. But what is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a pure moisturiser and hydrating agent, and when it’s applied under the skin, you get a plumped and hydrated appearance from the inside out. Profhilo treatments have the highest concentrations of it on the market, meaning it can remodel the ageing and sagging tissue as well as lifting it. Profhilo is a very versatile treatment too, it can be used on your:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage
  • Arms
  • Hands
  • Knees

Or really any part of the body that is showing signs of ageing. Profhilo is particularly good at targeting those fine lines, sagging and wrinkling that can happen around the neck, and can take years off your appearance in just two treatments.

It works almost instantly, showing an improvement in skin tone, firmness and hydration, as well as a dramatic reduction in lines. It’s considered by some the best non-invasive anti-ageing treatment for its amazing results and simple application.

How Does Botox Compare To Profhilo?

Botox is made of botulinum toxin – a neurotoxic protein. When injected into the skin, this toxin essentially stops the muscles from moving, which in turn stops wrinkles from developing or getting worse. Its chemical makeup is closely related to a naturally occurring poison, so if it’s not handled properly it can be dangerous.

Profhilo on the other hand is made of hyaluronic acid. In fact, it has one of the highest concentrations of stabilised hyaluronic acid on the market. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that human beings produce, and it’s something your body needs to retain water and moisture. It’s often found in the skin, joints and other connective tissues. Its job is to retain moisture in the body and help support collagen production. It’s known for its hydrating properties since it can hold 1000 times its weight in water, and this makes it ideal for moisture retention and more specifically, binding moisture to the skin. As we age, our bodies natural production starts to slow down, which causes skin to look dull and dehydrated, and starts the process of wrinkling.

Treatment wise, the key difference between Profhilo and Dermal fillers is that Profhilo is thermally bonded (instead of chemically bonded), which makes it a hydrator, not a filler.

How do Profhilo Treatments Work?

Profhilo treatments are simple, quick and painless. We inject the product just underneath the surface of the skin, where it disperses quickly and reacts with your own tissue. This reaction is almost instant, which why you can see results pretty much as soon as the treatment is finished. This is partly because the chemical is natural and familiar to your body, so it knows what to do with it.

But it doesn’t end there. Over the next 3 weeks the treatment gets to work under your skin, giving your body a natural boost to elastin and collagen production. This is what effectively remodels your skin, giving it a plumper, smoother and firmer appearance without the need for fillers. And the best part? Because Profhilo distributes smoothly and evenly, it doesn’t form any lumps. This is one of the big risk of more traditional fillers, and one of the reasons people avoid them. It also makes it perfect to use on areas that are typically tricky to treat with traditional fillers – like your neck and forehead. This is one of the reasons Profhilo is becoming so popular.

What Does Profhilo Treatment Feel Like?

When getting a Profhilo treatment, you will experience pretty much the same sensations as you do when getting Botox treatments. The full treatment of Profhilo is made up of 2 sessions, spaced 1 month apart. Your aesthetician will use very fine needles to inject the Profhilo solution just under your skin at 5 key points across your face, the position of which will depend on what you’re trying to achieve. For the maximum results, you only need 5 injections on each side of your face, so 10 overall. It’s a pretty painless procedure – you don’t need pain relief or even numbing beforehand – and the whole procedure only takes around 20-30 minutes.

The best part? Profhilo doesn’t have to be used alone. If you want to, you can pair it with other fillers, peel treatments and Botox, so it can either fit right into your current routine, or it could be used as a replacement. And aside from avoiding makeup and strenuous activity for 24 hours or so after the treatments, there is no downtime, so you’re good to go right away and get back on with your daily life. Once those initial sessions have been completed you can also opt for a booster session six month later, which will help prolong the effects.
